The Benefits of Living in Howard County, Maryland
Howard County is located in the center of Maryland, the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Region, making it the ideal destination for your next vacation, business trip, or conference. It doesn't matter if you enjoy dining, shopping, museums, or live music; Howard County has it all.
Visit Historic Ellicott City, where the Ellicott brothers discovered the famous Milltown in 1772. There are many restaurants and shops along Old Ellicott City's Main Street. Many items are available in the shops, including antiques, home furnishings, pottery, books, clothing, and much more—several shopping centers and restaurants along Route 40, including Maryland's Korean Way.
For decades, Savage was centered around a textile mill. Today, the Historic Savage Mill is home to many artisans, antiques, restaurants, and more. Historic Savage Mill is just five miles from Elkridge, Maryland. Located on the Patapsco River, Elkridge was once a bustling port. Miles of hiking and horseback trails surround today's river in a state park.
In 1967, Jim Rouse developed Columbia, Howard County's largest city, as a "garden for growing people" who were "creative, tolerant, and caring." With modern amenities like The Mall in Columbia and Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia retains the feel of a small town. Maple Lawn has a unique mix of boutiques, offices, homes, and restaurants.
Howard County's rolling hills provide views of the county's countryside. Western Howard County is home to many farms and the Howard County Fairgrounds, which hosts its annual fair at the end of summer.
